The man who carried out Friday's stabbing attack at London Bridge was a former prisoner convicted of terrorism offences.
The attacker, named by police as 28-year-old Usman Khan, was out of prison on licence at the time of the attack, in which a man and a woman were killed and three others were injured.
Khan was shot dead by officers after members of the public restrained him.

The Times reported that Khan's release from prison last year came after he agreed to wear an electronic tag and have his movements monitored.
The Parole Board said it had no involvement in Khan's release, saying he "appears to have been released automatically on licence (as required by law)".

Great news that they put him down at the road side.

The Court of Appeal said indeterminate sentences given to the men should be replaced with fixed terms.
Judges said the Parole Board was best placed to decide when the men were safe to be be released from jail.
The plotters were part of a group from Stoke-on-Trent, London and Cardiff who had been watched for months by police and MI5.
In total, eight men pleaded guilty on the eve of their trial in 2012 to preparing for acts of terrorism. A ninth man pleaded guilty to a lesser charge relating to possessing extremist material.
The prosecution said plotters had discussed attacking the London Stock Exchange, pubs in Stoke and, separately, setting up a jihadist training camp in Pakistan.
But three of the Stoke men, Mohammed Shahjahan, Usman Khan and Nazam Hussein, argued they should not have received indeterminate sentences for public protection (IPPs). These special sentences meant they could be kept in prison beyond their original minimum term.

So basically:

1. If he had not been released early 2 people would still be alive.
2. If his sentence had not been changed 2 people would still be alive.
3. If convicted of terrorist offence involving planning to kill people because you believe you are hearing voice from the Middle Ages telling you to do so why pay for them to be kept locked up?
4. Give anyone sentenced to life without parole the opportunity to be euthanised.
5. The parole board system is broken- release of terrorists should be at discretion of Prime Minister acting on advice of intelligence services.

Open to discussion BUT expect the do gooders to babble on about

  Claim prison does not rehabilitate - no s**t Sherlock
  THEIR human rights =when they choose to destroy peoples lives or take them away because of some delusional belief then you forego your human rights oddly because you are not human......
  Prison overcrowding= if you don't want to sleep 20 to a cell and s**t in a bucket don't kill/try killing people.
  People are radicalised in jail- again no s**t Sherlock- give them hard labours so by 1800 so knackered all they want to do is sleep- ban religion in prisons- no religious literature- special diets - segregation with others who have same deranged beliefs.

Lock them up and keep them hungry and tired....

Or put them down and save us all a load of money and keep normal people alive. Win /Win

Some good points, akarjl2.  However, as much as I'm in favour of executions for heinous crimes, the only way to know for certain that the person is guilty is to catch them in the act.  Impossible 99.99% of the time, I know and as Mk 1 lists, there would be (at least) 17 people wrongly killed if capital punishment still existed in the UK.  Also, with islamic radicalisation, these terrorists aren't bothered about being killed, hence suicide vests, as they believe they'll be meeting Allah and a thousand virgins when they shuffle off this mortal coil!  The police and security services should adopt, if they haven't already done so, a policy of shoot to kill if there's some nutter running round stabbing innocent people.

Fine- lock them up for life on some remote island or underground ( disused mine?) and work them so they are so knackered they can't be arsed with sitting around discussing religious texts..no phones...tvs....news papers...diet requirements. A "virtual" death sentence. If a mistake is made release and compensate.
