If I left my car unattended in an unfamiliar street unlocked and with the keys in the ignition and somebody stole it, how much sympathy would I get ?

Theft is wrong but the thieves don't need helping.
Would it be cost effective to fit ambulances etc. with keyless operation so the vehicle wouldn't start unless the driver was in the seat ?

You can't reason with those that don't care about anybody so it's a waste of breath arguing as such.

As for the police, a taxi driver was telling me how a cop friend got a right b0llocking for driving an extra 10 miles in a shift.
The police officer hadn't been on a detour for his own purposes. Just goes to show how hard up they must be.
