Have a drive round some where like Silverbirch Road on Bisop Cuthbert on an evening, cars parked on the pavements all over. The builder Bellways obviously built the road widths too the minimum requirement.
4 bedroom houses, Dad and Mum have cars along with the kids, driveway for 2 cars, the others have to park on the road.

Mr H

I do it as I find it to be more considerate, If I was to park fully on the road then it would cause problems with traffic flow.

Amazing what is classed as a detached or semi-detached house these days all with their skinny roads and all aimed at cramming as many houses as possible onto the same piece of land.

Went around a show house last year sometime and saw a box room with a half-sized bed in it. Someone had figured out that young kids aren't full adult height and therefore don't need a full-length bed which allowed them to downsize the dimensions of the box room accordingly but still call it a 3 bedroomed house.

Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

The houses in bishop cuthbert shouldn't be classed as semi or detached. They're more like terraced, as for the roads... They're narrower than some cycle paths

Show Houses have 'special' furniture in them which is smaller than normal furniture.

If you parked on the road in Bishop Cuthbert, between Rosebay Close and along Celandine  to Cranesbill Avenue, the large works vehicles, ie, 'JCB' types with forks on the front, wouldn't be able to pass without mounting the opposite curbs!  plus, it's not just the roads that are sh*&£, the drainage from the gardens are non existent...but as usual, the company responsible will not do anything!  By the way, who the f88k designed these layouts....I looked at a new one today whilst in the area....one side of the house was overlooked by a 2 metre wall + 2 metre wooden fence....4 metres of height  imposing over your NEW house!  I'd rather live in a tent!

Unless you pay out top of the range prices, new houses are shoehorned onto the minimum land. Despite the efforts of the developers to try and tell us otherwise, the layout of these developments present a depressing prospect. A good guide is, can you actually see the sky from your downstairs windows, because most are squeezed in that close it's just not possible to avoid the claustrophobic effect this creates. Not so much starter home but starter warren.
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.

Not surprised by the amount of houses crammed in given that council gets a cash bonus for each one that gets built from the government along with the extra council tax every year onwards.

It is common sense that an out of town 4 bedroom house requires a 3 to 4 car parking driveway and a 3 bedroom house with 2 to 3 spaces etc. However, never in the minds of planners and estates continue to be clogged up with cars using the public footpaths. If you want to extend your driveway you have to pay the council nearly £1000 to have the public kerb that they have adopted and maintain to be lowered. Another cash bonus for the council that the planners realise would go if common sense driveways were built in first place I think.
