Title: Local traffic Question
Post by: Inspector Knacker on December 05, 2019, 12: PM
Can someone explain why the York Road/Park Road junction outside Titan House doesn't have priority traffic lights to turn left down Park Road and come to that why not allow the barely used bus lane to allow traffic to turn right up Park Road?

York Rd/Park Rd,  York Rd/Victoria Rd  and Elwick Rd/York Rd junctions are regularly blocked off  by traffic jammed into  the hatched area as impatient motorists try to gain an extra 10 seconds on the Gregg's Sausage roll run.  Limiting  traffic (no cars) from the Burn Valley roundabout (though this roundabout also backs up traffic as far back as Cornwall St) to the Odeon would ease the problem.
The bus stop just after the Elwick Rd junction is also a big problem . All busses that stop there back-up traffic over the lights and the bus stop at the end of Surtees Street is the busiest in the town and on the narrowest part of the pavement. The bank have made their disability ramp take up half the pavement behind the bus shelter. Whoever 'plans' these things is obviously a car user who has no idea about the needs of the pedestrian.

So you don't drive thenI take it.
If we close the entire length of York Road North/South traffic would be crammed into Stockton Street and Catcote Rd or various side roads. Then there would be chaos.
What of a York are then devoid of passing traffic, some Dear Leader style continental cafe culture performance area .....lwhich the buses may just find disrupt the service.
I'm talking traffic management, not Carphobia.

At peak periods I often find it quicker to travel north to south along York Road, allowing vehicles to turn right up Park Road from York Road would help.

The hatched area at that junction also needs to be rethought, cars turning right into Park Road from York Road are often turning when the lights are on red.

Maybe because they are tasked with planning road traffic....Pedestrians have pavements and crossings galore...the rest of us have to actually get on with life and travel by car....since buses are once in a blue moon, rammed with druggies and retards and completely impractical for those with kids or more than a loaf of bread as shopping.

The best thing they could do is level the whole area and move all businesses to jackson's landing and brenda road....how essential are  takeaways and charity shops anyway?

Maybe there are too many cars, but how else do you get around? The bus service subsidies were eliminated by the Rent a Brain Gang and that has consequences the thickets never considered. Bus fares make it cheaper for a family to get a taxi or even a couple come to that. And when bus services become unreliable and expensive people realise they need a car. A cheap, reliable bus service with a town wide coverage obviously subsidised would be ideal, but I don't see any of the party's coming up with an offer.
So, we need the traffic sorting out to run more efficiently.
As a footnote, when schools are open, I have to be off my drive before 8.00am, when schools are closed, no problem.

And?
If you cant get off your fat ar*se and walk from at most  half a mile between The Burn Valley to the Odeon (total distance 1.2 miles) then  you just stop off at the old Clansman and get a mobility scooter.

Try to have a sensible discussion about traffic and you show a frothing contempt for motorists. It's ok for you Lord Snooty, you  travel on an ethereal cloud above us mere motoring plebs, up there amongst the Gods.

i guess there's not a lot to do in Greatham/Blackhall/Mk1 land so a walk into town to wander round the charity shops, spot the politicians and hang out with the alkies is the nearest thing too excitement.

Don't worry about post Brexit he will still have the British empire to fixate on and the antics following our departure from the socialist republic of europe....

..

Got put into one of those places when I got made redundant years back. Some spotty girl decided I needed  to 'get back in to a work routine' so I ended up as a 'volunteer' for a few weeks in outlet of a well respected National Charity.. What an eye-opener. First thing that struck me was how what I was now being told was 'work'  was something called 'farting about' when I was in industry. It was a complete doddle and I could not understand it when the regular employees complained about being overworked or felt 'tired'.  Next shock was how ruthless the Charity Sector is because the shop manager has a sales target and if you fail to meet that target they get a visit from a head-office twonk who spouts all that clap-happy 'we are a team' motivational crap. Items were sold and if returned as faulty they were simply placed back on sale with the fault because, as the manager told me when I offered to repair something first:

''Don't bother. People will buy anything and our customers  are not exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer to begin with''.

It certainly was a learning experience but I did not like what I learned.

It is pitiful. It's people like mk1 who ruin a forum. He's not here to share knowledge or benefit other members. He's too busy getting a kick out of trying to wind people up, as he has just proven with that post.

You are mistaken. For example I shared the information that shows The Brexit Candidate for Hartlepool does not know who owns 42% of his family firm.

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/dark-money-investigations/revealed-farages-brexit-party-chairman-facing-questions-over-offshore-tax-haven-links/

During the early 1990s, 40% of the company's shares were transferred to two companies in tax havens – Sunciera Holdings Corporation (registered in Panama) and Shuttlecock Holdings Limited (registered in the British Virgin Islands)

This did not go down well many here and I think what you meant to say is I share information that some would prefer remains hidden.

There is of course no suggestion the mystery shareholders are the family themselves and this is a simple tax evasion scam.

akarj2, he literally can't help it! It's not his fault! He was diagnosed as suffering the most virulent version of Brexit Derangement Syndrome a while back. Some say it's rebellion against the possibility that he's the progeny of a long ago secret tryst twixt Nigel Farage and Ann Widdecombe. Who knows! Whatever the reason apparently BDS when it's this bad is quite incurable, so steer well clear next week when Tice (the Greatham anti-Christ) becomes our next MP.

Again you are ignoring history. Long established National Parties never get destroyed. Every decade or so there is a sea-change and the last regime gets replaced by the new regime who in turn outstay their welcome and they get replaced. Its just buggins turn writ large. Always has been and always will.
Plus the voting numbers show 'you' are less organised  than the Labour vote. 'They' stopped the right-wing advance dead in its tracks and sent Farage scuttling back to America to try and help Trump save his fat ar*se.

I think you need to be careful MK1 The Trumpinator will hear of you bad mouthing him from his assistant Farge soon then the Hartlepool Branch of the CIA will swing into action and you will be sh**t*n* your pants.

Then again you spend your waking life on a forum few have heard of, in a town living in the 60s, sitting on a fence and trying to be smart, so perhaps no need to hide in your bunker just yet?

What time is the next bus to Durham and when is the next Durham Miners Gala ( err there are NO Durham Miners) in the labour conservative heartlands? Or is a an over 60s ride to York today? OAP pass at the ready hurry along nobody cares about you here now......responding to your posts is just a form of intellectual doodling.......passes the time. ;)
