Today's Mail carries yet more spiel about the mirage at Wynyard ... somehow, the following quote from the article carries a distinct whiff of desperation...

'Health chiefs say they are working hard to reassure central government and their own regulators that a scheme for a new £300m hospital is affordable.'

Preparing the ground for the announcement not to proceed.

How can you describe a tendering process with only one bidder as 'competetive'? The construction industry is crying out for work yet one by one constructions compapnies have dropped out. Doesn't this tell us that the figures don't stack up -and probably were never meant to stack up.

It looks like the Government is being prepared as the fall guy.

Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

There's no chance of this Government falling into the hole that Labour Government dug themselves - if it dont stack up it wont go ahead

To describe one bidder as being competitive is just a joke; exactly who are what are they being measured against?  Somehow, this reminds me of the old chestnut 'How come there's only one Monopolies Commission?' ...  ???
