Anybody know if this 'consultant' was previously employed by HBC or another authority/Union? Jobs for the boys?

In regards to Zero Hour Contracts, this popped up in the GOV.UK Jobsearch website

Q.W. Security
Cleaning Operative
Job description
QW MULTICLEAN has a vacancy for a Cleaning Operative at prestigious office premises at Wynyard Business Park.  Previous experience would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided.  Duties include working with a team of eight operatives providing general office cleaning.

The role involves the provision of cleaning services during 1700 hours to 1900 hours Monday to Friday.  Overtime working will be required from time to time to cover for holidays, sickness etc.

It is necessary that the successful applicant has their own transport, due to poor bus services to the location.

For early interview please contact Ms Elaine cullerton on 01429-268768.

The same QW Security who only recently was busted for short paying members of its staff Below the National Minimum Wage

And its down as a Zero Hour Contract

Trying to get my head round this, 10 hours a week, overtime working maybe required ! Own transport required, what a joke, who can afford transport on 10 hours a week ? Surely by their own admittance that Public Transport is poor they should be providing transport ?

Interesting that it's PHF who are calling for the council to walk the walk on this instead of just talking about it.

I was talking to a care worker yesterday who is on a zero hour contract. She is constantly on call and told me of the 3 phone calls she received while on a shopping trip to York asking her to drop everything there and then. She doesn't get paid for travel time between visits (which can be at opposite ends of the town), doesn't have a car and has to pay her own bus fare to get to each call if its beyond walking distance. She used to use a bike but after she was knocked off it by a car recently she was told that the accident occurred 'outside of working hours' and so wasn't insured. She couldn't work for two weeks receiving no sick pay.

The Comrades have sat back and ignored this since they came into power almost two years ago.  This is in spite of it being mentioned in Committee at least once, socialists my ar**.

we're on our way back to Victorian times, it seems. Couple this with the report that says Hartlepool has the highest % of workers earning less than the 'living wage' and you have a pretty good picture of what the future holds for Hartlepool - and CABs answer is to put the emphasis on more retail and tourism jobs i.e. those most likely to pay minimum wage. What a divvy :(
Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

I think I managed to make out from CAB's monotonous scripted reply to David's motion regarding the zero hours contracts is that it is already under way? I fed this information back to a friend of mine, who works for HBC and is still on a zero hours contract despite being promised for over a year that a full contract would be given.  Now this person takes no interest in politics at all and told me in no uncertain terms that it was bull****. Not holding our breath on this one.

Care staff are the most exploited workers with regards to zero hours contracts, very concerning given the lack of integration with the NHS and social care that is evident, especially so given CAB's role at HealthWatch.

Nice to see PHF trying to do something about it.

I think I'll start a few new posts as they seem to be thin on the ground with new ideas these days

The Indies "Should" have forced a vote on this issue, it would have shown The TorLab Mob up for what they are.

The unfortunate thing was however, that Clr Fleet was completely out of her depth in charing the meeting & if it hadn`t been for the CEO & Borough Solicitor Co-Chairing the meeting it would have degenerated into a complete farce.
