Title: 20 years on... Hartlepool United and the council.

Someone posted this on the poolie bunker forum. It's from the early 1990's. It's a very interesting watch. Amongst other things, it shows shops boarded up around the town, the westley Chapel boarded up with scaffolding on it, councillors arguing that the football club needs to finance itself and not look to them for handouts, people laughing that the council waste money on things. 20 years on..... groundhog day.

Fascinating video, Perseus. The more things change etc.......
Russel Hart was indeed the accountant for the radio station in its early days. He's the former Labour Group Leader famous for describing the group as a Snake pit. He was also the Chairman of the Hartlepool Hospital Trust which saw its merger with North Tees  - and we all know how that ended up. He controversially accepted a 150% increase in the money he received from the Hospital Trust from £20,000 to £50,000 per year for his part-time role as Chairman.
Last I heard, he was in very poor health.

How true. I noticed how much was made of the impending set-up of the Imperial War Museum which seems so familar. Even now, similar interviews always seem to latch on to the very latest news of the day suggesting the beginning of yet another rennaisance - 10 years ago it was the Imperial War Museum; today it's the predicted boom in wind turbine jobs.

Nothing much changes.
