Talk circulating that the No 6 Bus Service is now under threat

A nice opportunity to extend the Stockton based 36 service to the Brus.....and do away with aHartlepools busiest day time service...based in Hartlepool
What can be asserted without proof,

The No6 has just started running sunday to Thursday evenings again and is under a trial period so this is probably where the rumour has stemmed from.
The daytime service 6 is one of the busiest routes in the town so somebody is being mischievous

would not surprise me, Hartlepool must have the smallest profit in the whole of the stagecoach group.

5 or 6 services if that. Given the fact 2 are ran by Stagecoach Teesside its kinda lined up for some sort of merger maybe

If the No 6 (which is the most profitable route as pointed out) then surely Stagecoach are possibly looking to consolidate...

I'm sure Arriva could fill the gaps to the north of the town by re-routing some of their Sunderland/Durham buses.

Stagecoach Hartlepool is part of Stsgecoach Transit group...... the legal lettering on the side of the bus gives the game away..... not a stand alone vompany.
As for Arriva...replacing four buses an hour with one would be pointless... Arriva are hardly going to run four buses an hour on a route which out of town only warrants one for most of its route...they aren't compatable.

My brother in law is a driver out of the Stockton depot and as far as he is concerned Hartlepool is THE place to be. By all accounts their drivers are queuing up to transfer to Hartlepool. Though it is likely a lot of it is down to management.

This is the Press release issued by HBC

Residents of Hartlepool are at risk of losing a bus service between the town centre and Clavering community due to underuse and a local bus operator is urging people to get on board the campaign before it is too late.

As part of Stagecoach North East's 'Use it or Lose it' campaign in Hartlepool, the bus company is reporting a disappointing response to Service 6, which was introduced on 15 June for a trial period.

Almost two months into the temporary service, Stagecoach North East, which is working closely with Hartlepool Borough Council and the Tees Valley Business Network, is calling on members of the public to use the service they requested, or risk it being withdrawn permanently.

Managing Director, Phil Medlicott, Stagecoach North East, said: "Take up of the service has been quite slow and we are currently only carrying 50 per cent of the passenger numbers needed, which means Service 6 is now under threat unless there is a significant change.

"The service provides a safe and efficient travel option and as we are only six weeks through the trial, we would urge those who originally wanted the services to use them, or risk losing them for good. We are very keen to see passenger numbers on the reinstated service increase so we can continue running them and serve the community."

Councillor Peter Jackson, chair of Hartlepool Council's Neighbourhood Services Committee who has campaigned hard for the services to be re-introduced along with his fellow councillors Rob Cook and Marjorie James, said: "As a Council we have worked hard with Stagecoach to introduce the evening Service 6 between the Town Centre and Clavering and we do hope that the take-up increases to make it viable."

Since Sunday 15 June, Service 6 operates an evening service from 6pm until 9.45pm every 20 minutes between Hartlepool Town Centre and Clavering from Sundays to Thursdays and on Bank Holidays. The existing Friday and Saturday timetable has continued to operate across the town.

The Sunday to Thursday evening trips departs from Victoria Road, and do not serve the Central Library bus stops on York Road. Friday and Saturday evening buses continue unchanged.

The services have been reinstated for a trial period after which a decision to permanently reinstate the services will be based on the findings of passenger usage.
