Two Middlesbrough councillors have been suspended over allegations they have been paying for people to become members of the Labour Party.

Councillors Pervaz Khan, who represents the Middlehaven ward, and Derek Loughborough, from the North Ormesby and Brambles Farm ward, discovered their fate at a group meeting last night.

It has been confirmed the pair were suspended by the national party and are being investigated by the Labour North Regional Office.

Following the brief meeting, the two councillors said: "We have no comment to make at this point as it is an internal matter for the Labour Party to investigate."

It has been reported that the Middlesbrough Labour group said the councillors had been working hard in their communities to recruit new members by offering to help them to pay their first annual subscription, but neither had broken any party rules.
The party will still have control of 28 of the available 49 seats on the authority.

A spokesman for Labour North confirmed the suspensions.

Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

;D Ha Ha Ha .....Hilarious, paying people to join the Liebour party!.... Are things now that desperate for the party of the 'working class', that they have to pay people to join.

Maybe they need to have a really good look at who they consider they represent, (The workshy and Immigrants spring to mind) and formulate some policies that will attract them?........

One things for sure, as Bob Crow rightly states....... They DO NOT represent the working man anymore.  ;)
