There was some artificial turf laid around the play equipment, but no doubt it will have been the wrong shade of green, probably be resurrected in the garden of some Labour Cllrs abode, on the Brooke estate.

They  put some artificial grass on Thornton Street and within weeks a huge square was cut out and removed overnight. After it was replaced  the whole  lot was  pinched. The council then replaced it with a massive boulder!
I was in Newcastle over the weekend and they had closed off Blackett Street  where it cuts through Eldon Square Shops  https://goo.gl/maps/sGpgXYGvbMx

and covered it with artificial turf. It was a great big play area for the kids.

I'm not trying to rain on the parade, but, is it wise to open up a play area metres away from a fire  damaged building? If loose masonry or other debris is not secured, in windy conditions, it is asking for trouble. Has the Longscar actually been given a full structural survey?
