Watching it again last night and noticed the section where the police officer showed the journalist around the deserted custody suite which was shut allegedly because of cuts to personnel. Later, the same police officer was taking in glowing terms of all the new wave of recruits coming through shortly. The journalist then asked would the custody suite be re-opening which was met with a curt ..... no!
Sums it up nicely.
All the hits this town has taken over the past few years was because we had p**s poor representation at all levels who politically couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag more concerned on tarting up streets and wild f*#%@#g flowers.
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.

Didn't the new guy in charge of Cleveland Police (Richard Lewis) find that there had been money in the kitty all along? That more police could have been funded even before the latest tranche were recruited?

It they re-open the custody suite then they will need several officers  just to man it full time before a single extra officer will be available to patrol the town. I am not defending just pointing out the downside.
It is all about funding nationally and it has been decided that (for example) Aircraft carriers that we can not escort safely in foreign waters  are more important than the safety of the citizens on the streets.

Didn't the Sergeant from the video say that they needed 3 officers to fully man the custody suite?  So it's bad that they would have to have 3 extra just to open it up again but I wonder how that would work out when you take into account how long another officer (or more depending if they patrol alone or not) would be travelling back and forth to Middlesbrough, a extra 50 min taken up on a round trip by their own words.  I think it definitely needs looking into.
