A letter by a concerned British taxpayer:


Dear Sir,

According to reports on the BBC the rail freight company DB Schenker, owned by the Germans, is to cut 234 jobs in its British operation. Regular rail travellers in our area will be familiar with the company, its massive maroon and yellow EWS locomotives hauling many of the trains to Avonmouth docks and other parts around Bristol.

The Germans were allowed to buy into our rail system thanks to EU rules and the privatisation of British Rail under EU Directive 91/440.

Can the EU Supporters Club remind us again of their favourite chant, of how 'We must be in the EU to safeguard jobs"?

It should give us all a good laugh, unless of course you are one of the unlucky 234 rail staff, or their families, who are facing redundancy because of the EU!
