So basically what you are saying is that UKIP are incapable of working or negotiating with others who hold a different point of view. Very similar to Hind's view that there's no point trying to do anything in the council chamber unless you have a majority.

beanzontoast

Kipperdip is meerly saying only one member from UKIP are on the fisheries panel  not unlike the town council there are 19 labour councillors and 2 UKIP councillors,  evry motion goes to a vote lets take the Mayor for example, he has been such a liability and embarrassment not only to himself but the people and reputation of Hartlepool, he knows this .The 2 UKIP councillors voted with PHF and independents , 19 labour and 3 conservatives voted against thats democracy, the only way to stop this travesty is to have more of us than of them, when I say us it matters not to me if it's UKIP PHF INDEPENDENT it is however essential the people of Hartlepool will decide on May 7th.

to state a truth is not arrogance landphil but honesty.
If you were with UKIP you would understand that!

SRMoore

Good morning Kipperdip and thanks for your reply to my earlier post on UKIP & the fishing industry.

Far from being one of
Quotethe 'usual suspects' develop selective amnesia and trot out the same bilge repeatedly
I simply raise an issue I have with the 'non engagement' policy UKIP has when it comes to attempting to get a better deal for the UK whilst we are still members of the EU.

When the Common Fisheries Policy was being renegotiated last year it was a perfect opportunity for UKIP to work with Conservative MEPs to ensure the best possible outcome for the Britain. The non engagement policy meant that the "Socialists, Liberals and Greens" from other EU states were able to largely run roughshot over the negotiations.

The government has given out fishing quota in largely the same way since the mid-90s. About 95% of the fishing quota is awarded to the larger end of the fleet, most notably domestic and foreign controlled industrial fishing businesses – such as the vessel Cornelis Vrolijk. It's symbolic of just how broken the system is.

Meanwhile, local, sustainable fishermen which are the heart of many coastal economies get just 4%.

Since the start of 2014, the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) obliges European governments to allocate fishing opportunities – such as fishing quota - to their fleets according to new criteria. These must now include environmental and social as well as economic criteria.

Unfortunately it was OUR government who then proceeded to ignore these new rules and proceeded to give the same level of quota to the larger vessels as it always has done.

Thankfully, Greenpeace have won the right to challenge this decision in the High Court so I would hope that this be reversed and future governments use the new rules to ensure local sustainable fishermen are able to get a larger slice of the pie to ensure they can make a decent living.

So you see, you don't have to like the system but by at least playing the system whilst you can help those who you chose to put yourself forward to represent WHILST working towards your end goal.

What about fish from foreign waters which inadvertently swim into UK 'territorial waters'? Should we class them as 'bloody' immigrants and send them all back where they came from or should we only be allowed to catch fish with lateral lines shaped like a Union Jack??

Utter rubbish.

The Hartlepool Mail had known about SAB being sacked from his job for some time. It was after all, a photograph of SAB on the deck of HMS Warrior in Portsmouth, taken by The Mail's sister paper in Portsmouth, which was at the root of the whole matter.

The Post waited for the Mail to publish the story because we wanted to know if a little 'nod and a wink' deal had been done with Labour to sit on the story. When it became clear that it had, The Post published the story and a couple of days later The Mail followed suit.

PHF and Independents then followed up the story by raising it in the council chamber which itself was published on The Post and in The Mail till eventually we reached the point when I don't think there is anyone left in Hartlepool who doesn't know what a lying, liability to the town Stephen Akers-Belcher is.

From what I'm hearing traipsing the streets, the behaviour of SAB, CAB, Cranney and Wilcox is well up the list of talking points and I'm sure it will play a big part in where the votes go.

The point is, all of this was done by PHF and Independent councillors without having a majority in the council chamber. The UKIP idea that you can just sit on your ar** doing nothing except wait for a majority to come along, while doing absolutely nothing to make it happen, is something only the two UKIP bookends could think is a strategy.

Sometimes Johnny Foreigner gets it right.  Here is something quintessentially English that the Germans took and improved 100%. Absolutely beautiful rendition.

How strange. This is the first 'tune' I can remember and which caught my ear, so to speak. I have a vague memory that it was used as the theme tune to an early soap opera in the late 50s. I couldn't quite make out the lyrics but then I never could understand the Geordie accent.

KD, let me explain where I'm coming from here. I do this in the full knowledge that you won't bother to read this properly because your own views are entrenched, are not open to modification and have remained that way since your days in the BNP. UKIP have, do and always will continue to disgust me. They reside in the UK's wheelie bin of prejudice, bigotry and plain ignorance.

While Hitler used the Jewish people and the Turks used the Christian Armenians to dump the blame for all national ills, UKIP choose to widen the scope by blaming all things foreign and they do so through the use of selective evidence while displaying the highest level of hypocrisy.

My comment was motivated because I know, and the evidence shows, that UKIP do not give a toss about the UK fishing industry. Others have explained just how well UKIP have stuck up for that industry within the EU – they don't bother to turn up at the negotiations, let alone stick up for the fishing industry, yet they are happy enough to go on picking up their generous EU salaries and make best use of EU expense claim forms - no boycott there.

For you and UKIP, the fishing industry and the people who depend on it are nothing more than just another route to have a go at the EU and Johnny Foreigner. In other words, while you are keen to make use of their plight, you are not willing to do anything about it.

UKIP have nothing to offer but ignorance and bigotry as you've proven so well through years of posting on this forum.

That kind of rubbish from kipperdip is exactly the kind of thing that local UKIP councillors just cannot seem to grasp or comprehend about PHF.

We are a local party, interested in local issues, trying to do what we can for the town. There is no way on God's green Earth a local councillor can do anything about EU fishing legislation. That's not what being a local councillor is about. It's about picking your battles and addressing the issues that you CAN do something about locally.

How difficult is that to grasp?

Likewise, there isn't a local councillor in the country who can do a damn thing about immigration and there are many councillors who don't even want to do anything about that issue. Locally, with our 1.5% or so 'migrant population' it isn't even an issue anyway. There's literally nothing to moan about immigration wise in Hartlepool.

(Aside from the Romanian woman at the bottom of the ramp playing the accordion. I find her mildly annoying but its nothing to do with her being Romanian. It's more to do with her playing 'Oh when the Saints' over and over slightly out of key).

UKIP are likely to win 2, maybe 3 seats Nationally in the General Election and a smattering of councillors here and there around the country. No one affiliated with UKIP is going to be in a position to do anything of the kind of significance you're talking about, particularly at local level.

You wont be able to change EU fishing quotas, you won't be able to change the way the seawater pollution level is measured in Seaton Carew, you wont be able stop 'foreign' people living in Hartlepool... you wont be able to do ANYTHING meaningful from your crackpot manifesto.

That's the reality of the situation.

What you CAN do, (assuming you win a couple of wards locally) is try to be effective councillors who actually meaningfully contribute.

That would be a start before you march into Brussels with pitch forks and burning torches.

steveL

oh and by the way. . . .

Being elected as a local councillor is a privilege; it's not meant to be a consolation prize if you don't manage to get yourself elected as MP.

I have the full 'box set' of 'Romanian Gypsy Accordion players, greatest hits', it a must have for any collection.  Anyone is very welcome to share this toe tapping homage to the accordion and cultural diversity.
