Press Release

Invitation to comment on a review of the Council's Constitution

Published Thursday, 4th February 2016
LOCAL people are being given the opportunity to comment on a key document which helps shape the way the Council functions including its relationship with partner organisations.

All councils are required by law to prepare and keep up to date a document, known as the 'Constitution' which contains information as to the exercise of the Council's powers and duties but also the rights of local people and how they can participate in the running of the council.

A copy of the Constitution is available for public inspection at the Civic Centre and is located on the Council's website at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/constitution.

The Council will consider recommendations as part of a periodic review of its Constitution at meetings to be held on 17 March and 24 May 2016, when reports will be presented by the Council's Chief Solicitor and Monitoring Officer, Peter Devlin.

Hartlepool residents are invited to contribute to the report to be presented to Council by making comments in writing to Mr Devlin, Hartlepool Council, Civic Centre, Hartlepool TS24 8AY or via e-mail at democratic.services@hartlepool.gov.uk. Comments need to be submitted by Friday 19 February, 2016.

Inspector Knacker

We have a constitution..? Well, there's a turn up for the books, for all the difference it'll make.
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.
