"No homes for heroes: Dismay as Hartlepool councillors reject housing plans for veterans"

This story is interesting in its own right but I think there's also another story here. This is not what you would call a 'sympathetic headline'; it comes with a definite slant aimed at pointing the reader in a particular direction. It is not the sort of headline that you would have read in The Mail a couple of months ago.

I would suggest that a couple of months ago the alternative headline would have been something like:

"Housing Development Rejected Over Fears of Job Losses"

All of which tells us that under its present leadership, the local labour Group has lost the support of the local newspaper. It's been looking this way for a while but some were wondering if things had now been patched up. Apparently not.
