The on line appearance of the Mail has changed.

It used to have the "7 day catch-up" just at the weekend, but it is still there today.

Is this a forewarning of Johnston Press about to announce a change to a Weekly print version?

After all they changed five of their papers last \October to weekly from daily editions.

JP now have only about 13 dailys, whereas they have some 175 paid for weekly papers.

Nope .....they tweeted that they were having trouble with their website this afternoon

The straight to-print facility where outside agency Press Releases are sent directly to the press overloaded!

Joy was in the paper today and I gotta say it-those eyes are scary!

JY is now editing three papers: The Mail, Peterlee Star (isn't that a freebie?) and the Shields Gazette. I think this is a stepping stone from having an editor editing one paper sixs day a week to an editor editing several papers one day a week.

It's only a mattter of time.

The Mail website edition seems to have returned to normal.

I have found some circulation figures for daily paid for newspapers from http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/node/49929

These are not up to date but show the decline in sales last year in the first half of 2012.

Near the foot of the list in red is the Hartlepool Mail.

The five newspapers that Johnston Press announced last October to be changed to weekly ar shown in bold. Only one of these had a circulation figure less than the Mail.

Any decision to cjange over to weekly from daily is not just down to circulation though, but it worth looking at these numbers.

I think that the Hartlepool Mail now has the lowest circulation of any of the Johnston Press paid for "dailys"

As I originally pointed out, the company has 13 (or is it 11?) paid for "dailys" but some 175 paid for "weeklys".

Regional dailies ranked by total circulation in the first half of 2012 (source ABC)

It's a shame how the paper has gone but I remeber looking about 4 years ago and the circulation was then 17,000 - that's a hell of a drop in very few years
