Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

Those 'cape style' outfits are quite something. Are they vintage Mary Quant or were they found abandoned on the set of Star Trek?

How much did the Belfast Jolly cost ?..... would seem to be a reasonable question for the next full council meeting.

In these times of 'cuts and austerity' what was the purpose of the 'visit'?
Who went and who paid?

Could be looking towards twinning 'artlepool with Belfast - the common theme being a sinking ship

Just when they thought they'd returned to stability, the jolly boys outing turns up.

So then, a few questions.
How many were in the party?
How long was the 'visit'?
We're councillors allowed to take partners?
Did the partners pay their own visits?
What was the purpose of the 'visit'?
What professional expertise did the councillors bring to the 'visit'?
How much did it cost?
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.

I suspect that if those questions were put forward for the next full council meeting, they wouldn't be allowed..... despite the fact that public monies may and probably were used to fund the jolly for 4........all the more reason for them to be put forward.

Just a thought wonder if they have been over there to bring hms Caroline a ship from the battle of Jutland over to hartlepool, with Belfast having the titanic quarter they may have no use for it,just a thought.

It was originally intended to bring it here with the ill fated Imperial War Museum that ended up in Salford docks. Last I heard they wanted to keep it in Belfast as it received a grant of £11.5 million to restore the vessel from the Lottery heritage fund. It ain't going nowhere.

I see no valid reason why those questions in respect of how they spend  our money couldn't be asked. It's not their money and they should be accountable to us how it is spent. Sometimes you get the distinct impression they're operating under the delusion that it's their money. If it's theirs , it's none of our business,  if it's ours, we should be told.
