When The Mail stops acting as the mouthpiece of the local Labour Group perhaps more people will go back to buying the paper and help its terminal decline.

Here's the original Press Release from HBC's Spin Department.

"TOURIST trips to Hartlepool are boosting employment in the town.

Nearly 140 new jobs in tourism were created in the town between 2009 and 2013, according to the latest figures.

In the same period Hartlepool also enjoyed a £24 million boost in tourism revenue.

Figures from the Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor (STEAM) show that tourism generated £142.9 million in Hartlepool in 2013 - 21% more than 2009.

The increase in revenue generated the equivalent of 138 full-time jobs in tourism related sectors - including hotels, restaurants and recreation.
According to the STEAM figures, Hartlepool received 3.2 million visitors in 2013 and the tourism industry accounted for 2,021 jobs for local people.

Councillor Christopher Akers-Belcher, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "I am delighted people are viewing Hartlepool as the culturally rich town that it is.

"The town has many great assets, including Hartlepool's Maritime Experience and the marina, and I believe the Hartlepool Vision is already helping to regenerate the wider area."

The Hartlepool Vision, which was launched in January 2014, aims to revitalise key areas of the town and lay the foundations for the town's future prosperity.

The Hartlepool Vision includes eight key sites. They are the town centre, Jacksons Landing/Trincomalee Wharf and the marina, Church Street, Seaton Carew, the Headland, Wynyard, the Port and Queens Meadow.

Councillor Akers-Belcher added: "Since launching the Hartlepool Vision we've received fantastic support from residents, businesses and many influential regeneration players and I am very encouraged by the progress we have made so far.

"Our aim is to create major new retail and leisure facilities, produce much needed job opportunities for the town and further increase the town's profile as a visitor destination."

Officers at Hartlepool Borough Council are currently preparing a report analysing the volume and value of the town's tourism in 2014. "

Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

Copper Pipe

What a load of tosh, the whole cut and paste report sent to the Mail by the council is just one of many messages to show the Akers-Belchers in a good light after all the lies and deceit.

I wish the mail to recover its vastly dwindling readers would do some digging around of its own, rather than rely on the big cash payouts from our council.

There is still light at the end of the tunnel because we have radio Hartlepool that after listening doesn't pussyfoot around about our shambolic council.

Cummon mail, have some respect for what was once a great daily paper and stop prostituting yourself out for cash from the labour Liars.

Yet more B****x from the delusional fantasies  of Calamity Chris & The Mob...... they really need to stop eating those mushrooms ;)

Inspector Knacker

Tourism in Hartlepool generated £142.9  million in 2013 ? Seriously ?
I'd love to see the data used to arrive at that figure.
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.

As mentioned earlier once an area is designated as a tourist 'attraction' then everyone visiting it is classed as a tourist. Thus all the shops in and around ASDA are  'Tourist Attractions'. All the locals who shop there find themselves being added to the numbers and that is how we end up with the tourist boom!

Land Phil

It would have been £300 million had they removed the yellow lines left behind from the tall ships and more people had the chance to park up and enjoy the town's assets

Exercise Sandpiper was a full-day exercise involving all of the emergency services and other key organisations as part of their work to plan and prepare for major incidents.
It included a scenario where a hostage was taken in a mock college setting (Jacksons Landing) which resulted in the arrest of two suspects and one other being shot dead...

Hopefully the SCABs with Ray getting the bullet!

"I am taking over as chief executive of a vibrant council with ambition which performs very well overall. It is a council that punches well above its weight

Must be refering to Cranney,
