There's always a story behind these decisions though we'll probably never find out what the real story behind this one actually is, but the idea of RMW getting excited about £6,000 in developer contributions is laughable.

Last year, RMW championed a move by his mate, Musgrave, to do exactly the same and drop their own developer contribution (106 money) from their Wynyard housing development. In that case, it wasn't £6,000 they were talking about but a cool £1m and RMW and his Labour colleagues were all in favour of it. The move prompted an exasperated planning officer to get all of the planning committee together for a meeting just to make sure that they actually understood what they had just done - waived goodbye to £1m that the council was entitled to and, in the process, made the developer £1m better off.

Wells understood alright.

Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.
