Come on, are they really that stupid not to be aware that we already have a nuclear power station big enough to meet the needs of Hartlepool?

Is it only me that thinks this crass decision smells of back handers.
What other reason could there be ?
I don't believe it.

nuclear power station does not feed Hartlepool it feeds the grid there is already a small biomass power station in Hartlepool next to what used to be davy forge
A councillor is an elected representative of their ward, not their political party!

There is also a large solar farm at Wolviston and I have some AA batteries in the pantry.

I don't believe it.

Why couldn't it be built on a brownfield site, it's not like we don't have an abundance.
The officers objected,  the councillors approved, so what exactly are their qualifications on the subject, do they have qualifications on energy generation?
Why employ professional planners when the councillors are so utterly brilliant they feel they can bulldoze through the development?
Shows what the lack of a town plan leads to. What next, nuclear storage facility at Summerhill? An abbatoir in a discreet industrial shed in Ward Jackson Park? A visitor centre called Asbestos World on the site of Jacksons Landing?  You never know when councillors decide their 'wisdom' is greater than that of the professionals they pay to do the job.
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.

Yes, they went against officer advice again which not only leaves the way to an appeal wide open with any objectors on course for a likely win but sets the council up for yet another legal bill. The objectors can simply use the professional reasoning of the planning officers and they will be home and dry.

What do you expect when you have people prepared to say that Hartlepool needs more electricity because of the large number of new homes being built in the town? Have these imbeciles not heard of the national grid or not noticed that the town already has a nuclear power station capable of supplying 2 million homes?

Imbeciles; there's no other word for it.

Wells now has the Planning Committee Chair and Vice Chair in his pocket in the form of 86 year old George Morris as Chair and Brenda Loynes as vice-Chair. Wells himself sits in the stalls as a mere committee member but from where he can direct George's Chairmanship by proxy.

It's the other way around on the licensing Committee with Brenda Loynes as Chair and George Morris as Vice-Chair.

UKIP, with twice as many councillors as the Tories, have no Committee Chairs but then it's not as if this is a properly functioning council where any semblance of proportionality applies.
Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

Devlin appears to be happy with the arrangement - what I don't understand is that in a Full Council Meeting a couple on months ago Martin-Wells threw his toys out of pram in replying to David Riddles comment that there weren't many councillors in work - Martin-Wells pointed out that HE was a BUILDER - sitting on the planning committee - come on Mr Devlin

The distribution of chairs is carefully orchestrated ensuring that nobody has two - only one SRA (Special Responsibility Allowance) can be claimed by each councillor so providing a freebie just wouldn't do

I thought that chair of Planning was Cooke with SAB as Vice Chair - Loynes & Morris have Licensing - unless it's changed.
With proportional representation how can the Conservatives have 3 seats on Planning and 2 on Licensing - the most thay should have on any committee is 1 - looks like one for the Constitution Committee to bring in line with actual practice

Yeah i remember that "As a reasonably successful property developer . . . " was his exact words, it's on camera.

I think it's allowed though. Well it must be or he wouldnt be allowed. All he (or anyone else on planning) has to do is declare an interest and potentially not vote on an application they could be directly or indirectly involved in, or could be construed to have an interest in.
