Interesting story emerging out of the Civic today following the appointment of Denise Ogden as Director. The appointments panel met on Friday to interview both Denise and Damien Wilson for the job and when it came to the vote the panel found itself tied 4/4. Normally, the matter would be decided by the casting vote of the Chairman, Stephen Akers-Belcher, who had already voted once for Ms Ogden. However, he refused to play his casting vote card and told the panel that 'he didn't want the responsibilty' even though he has no such problem both wanting and accepting his special responsibilty allowance.

God knows what was going through his head but its noticeable that partner Christoper had voted for Wilson. Was he worried about flying dinner plates in the kitchen afterwards?

A second interview session was quickly arranged for Monday and this time the panel backed Ogden unanimously - it looks better once the die has been cast. Presumably, someone banged a few heads together after a comment was made as to how all of this was going to look when HTH got hold of it.

Well it looks like you lot couldn't run the proverbial p**s up in a brewery, actually.

Anyway, congratulations to Ms Ogden who apparently is unusually human for an officer at this level.
Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

I think it shows that some people just aren't up to taking  big decisions. The pity is they're in a position to do some serious damage. It wouldn't go down well with the voters but there is some serious merit in us all paying for these clowns to be shipped off to some retirement resort in Spain for the duration and leaving the council officers to get on with it.

Sounds like a lesson in how not to make an important decision.

Makes you wonder just who it is that wears the Trousers on the appointments panel ????

It's worrying that when facing one of its worst money crisis in decades HBC now finds itself in the hands of such a low quality bunch of people.

Who can forget Walker's 'veiled threat' to reveal one of the f**ty Belchers past record of achievement.
It did not earn the usual blustering evasive  response so it worked.
It shut the bugger up!
