That's his response to the London Bridge attack. Would anyone care to guess how many more deaths and casualties we would have had if we were all following the views of this Woodentop?
Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

Every day the right-wing rags have a dozen or more  Corbyn-knocking stories. They keep saying his latest interview/debate/press conference is 'a disaster' and he has 'had a melt-down' and he has been 'exposed'.
And every day a new opinion poll comes out that show his numbers have gone up and Mays have gone down.

Fact: Corbyn is on track to get a greater number of votes than Labour got in the last  election when they were  (it is claimed) 'more electable' and before  his populist manifesto that 'no one would vote for'!

There is a lot being invested here in  Labour losing Hartlepool at the GE and  I am afraid that is no longer safe bet.

DRiddle

Corbyn was caught between a rock and a hard place with this one. From what we understand he's always been against shoot to kill. So today he's been hammered by one paper for giving a hint of a U-turn on it and on the same day hammered by another paper for sticking to his view on it. He's also been hammered by some sections of the media for commenting on it, (by being accused of making political gain) and hammered by other sections for not commenting on it fully(by being accused of ducking the issue).

Obviously it's imposible for him to have done all four of those things.

There is literally nothing he could have said on this issue without sections of the press spinning it to make him look bad.

In terms of Hartlepool, it's all going to hang on where the UKIP votes go. My guess is there'll be 1000-1500 votes between the winner and second place. There's a lot of shy Tories out there apparently.

akarjl

I suspect a lot of ex labour voters who turned to UKIP to get out of europe thinking about Abbot and Corbetto "running" the country will secretly vote conservative...not telling anyone and even claiming they went back to labour.

Hope you are more accurate this time than in your previous  predictions that Wild Gerty was gonna take Holland and Le Pen France. You have marked Merkel down for defeat and she is leading the polls by a wide margin. Looking good for Corbyn!

Have a blind man joke as a bit of bad taste from the Australian version of Rainbow....

What part of "I suspect" did you not understand?  ;)

Oh dear .....you are still twitching over the fact that some of us have actually met and talked with dutch and german people?

Gerty had the rug pulled from under him if you read up about what happened with the turkish agitators being banned from entering.....clever move but a a lot of Dutch people are well pis*ed off.....

Merkel lol...well let's see what happens if there is another attack in Germany .....

The odd thing is when you work with and speak with the "European Man in the street  " or ship, in my case, as opposed to trawling through youtube or other "news" sites, they all seem to have the same viewpoint regarding immigration and Islamic terrorism...but nobody in the various government listens because they are terrified of being accused of being racists- sound familiar?

You are probably right though, Mother Theresa is falling apart.....just wobbles here gob when put on the spot......and she has probably destroyed her case having decimated the police force in the light of recent events

The bumbling polytechnic style seems to work well for Corbyn who comes across as caring and convincing a lot of the time, socialist "values" and all that clap trap- which they conveniently forget when they sniff the mega trough at Westminster , pandering to the unions and promising things he has no idea how he is going to pay for.....probably crossing his fingers that Abbot hasn't been left to do the maths.

God help us, another labour government led by a loony leftist....anyone remember the winter of discontent?

But then again a lot of people simply don't trust him and Abbot, the party equivalent of Crannible, so who knows. At this late stage I see no local candidates worth voting for and do not have faith in either Labour or the Conservatives.

Shepherd

Akajl, I know it does your head in when arguing with the less well travelled, because there is an amount of dogma in what is said, but it's not excessive and it is accurate at times. Credit where its due

As someone who has lived / worked in 20+ countries + quite a bit of time at sea on construction / installation vessels. North, South China, Caspian sea's, The Gulf. I would say I have spoken to a lot of ordinary people "on the street". My passport and Seaman's book attest to that fact.

Your right, an awful lot of people are pis*ed off, (particularly in Holland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden) me being one of them. However, with Corbyn, (I admit he has grown on me) he is on a hiding to nothing with the press. Allow me to elaborate.

The nut case running North Korea (I was in South Korea when they sank that navy vessel in 2010, killing 30 odd South Korean Navy personnel and I was very close to the boarder, squeaky bum time) was branded a "maniac" by The Sun because he said he was prepared to use nuclear weapons in a 1st strike. When Corbyn stated he would not use nuclear weapons on a 1st strike basis he was branded a "maniac" by The Sun. It's the same with every issue. There is no fairness or objectivity, just relentless mud-slinging.

Right wing press is publishing ultra-biased clap trap on a daily basis because the proprietors of those organs want the money making bandwagon that has been rolling for the last 7 years to keep on rolling, the faster the better. The rich are getting richer (at an obscene rate) while the actions of this current mob are carried out behind the scenes and no one knows what is being lost. Please take what you read with a pinch of salt.

Schools, NHS, public services, police, councils all see their budges cut and cut deeply.

Now they have been exposed, the issue with the police cuts has come back to bite May hard on the ass. She presided over the loss of 19,000 police officers + the same again in support staff. £40,000+.

May had the brass neck to tell the Police Federation they were "scaremongering". Err no!

She and her ilk, have compromised the safety of the country for political dogma "austerity", It has not worked. Flattened the economy, made people poorer, no pay rises etc, while prices keep going up, the game is up, people don't trust this weak and wobbly woman. Watch the knives come out after she loses her majority, no one puts a knife in the back like the Tories. Hung parliament is a real prospect!

I saw a mention of the winter of discontent, 1979? I don't believe this that's a good argument because we simply don't have unions in the numbers (13 million members in '79) to re-run that event + people have mortgages.

However, I look with dismay at what we have to select from on Thursday. Abbot is horrendous, but then again so is Boris as is Hunt. Corbyn a leader? not really but then again neither is May IMHO + she is a blatant liar. News, last night denied she had compromised the police.

As for the rest, wishy washy, "right on lefties" on one side and frankly, fascists & Nazis on the other, career politicians filling their boots, like the SCABS, m*oran mouth, mad DOG on steroids.

As for the Hartlepool candidates, my god what did we do to be offered this batch. Union drone who cannot string a sentence together, tory paratrooper dropped in to earn his stripes, UKIP clown and a Liberal who looks the best of the bunch, by far, but has no chance in this town, anyone remember Jodie Dunn?

fred c

Shepherd...... extremely well thought out post, balanced, non partisan and factual......the top and bottom it is, we are Fooked if we do.... and Fooked if we don't......... professional politicians seeking their own ends.... I, for 1 am heartily sick of the political elite of whichever party.

Shepherd

Thanks fred, you have hit the nail squarly on the head. Damned whichever way we go!

You're right........ What a dilemma for anyone looking to vote for change on Thursday...... Has there ever been such a shower of undesirables standing for election both locally and nationally?

Nobody has the balls big enough to sort this country out in my opinion...... I think we are f@@ked whichever way we vote.
'They don't like it up em'

I am seriously considering starting a new political party

'The I don't care who runs the country cos you will only f**k it up party'

I think it would be a landslide win

Lord Elpus

I've never felt so undecided in a general election ever. I could go either way, or just spoil my paper.  Either way I know I'll live to regret it no matter what I do.

Shepherd

You can see why Trump, the galactic sized aberation and walking violation of the laws of nature got elected.

People are sick to death of these political elite types, who will just not answer any question honestly, and have as a consequence brought the whole process in to disrepute.

Will things change for the ordinary person come Thursday and beyond. Yes for the worse if the tories get in, that's guarenteed. Cuts, cuts and more cuts,  its hardwired into their DNA.

There will be two NHS's the world class one that you pay for and pay through the nose and the one everyone else, who can't pay gets which will be underfunded, under resourced and under maintained with long waits at what A&E's are left.

If Labour get in...well thats a big ? The dogma thats pulled the country down the last 7 years will go, but it will be replaced by other dogmas and no one has seen the politics of Corbyn and Abbott, in action for decades. and there is a good reason for that, it does not work in the long game, Also with Russia aggressive again, Brexit and all the delights that will come with that process, its just more issues in the mix.

The other parties are making up the numbers. God what a bloody awful shower to pick from?

If "none of the above" was on the paper, thats were my vote would go. In a real democracy if none of the above got more votes that the candidate with the most votes then there should be no member returned. I think the shock of that happening would wake these people up and change their way's toot-sweet. End of the gravy train or tell the truth, it would be like the confessional on a Saturday evening, with politicians queuing to confess their sins.
