HARTLEPOOL COUNCIL
PRESS RELEASE

Are you interested in being a Hartlepool councillor?

A SPECIAL event is taking place in Hartlepool this Saturday (April 12) for anyone interested in standing for election as a councillor in the forthcoming Borough elections.

The briefing event will be held in the Civic Centre, Victoria Road, starting at 10am.

Local elections will take place in Hartlepool on Thursday 22 May to elect borough councillors – the same day as elections for Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

In the Borough elections, one councillor will be elected to each of the 11 wards in Hartlepool and will serve for a term of four years. Electors can vote either in person at their allocated polling station on the day of the poll or by post.

Candidates must be aged 18 or over, on the electoral register, and must have lived, worked or owned a property in Hartlepool for at least a year.

At the briefing event, prospective candidates will be able to ask questions and find out more about the role as a councillor. Nomination packs will also be available at the event for anyone wanting to put themselves forward as a candidate.

The closing date for nominations for anyone wishing to stand in the election is 4pm on Thursday 24 April.

There is no deposit required to stand in the elections. For further information contact the Elections Office at the Civic Centre on 01429 523017.
