isn't that around 4x what they hope to make from the Seaton parking charges?

Devils advocate

More money for us council tax payers to find.

It is ok though Christopher "Baldrick" Akers-Belcher has a cunning plan to just blame it all on central government.

Christopher and his Labour hangers on have destroyed this town.

Reading the story, it looks as if he never pays his business rates because it has gone on for years and he has been allowed to get away with it, year in, year out.

When he was pictured with CAB and Robbie Payne in front of the Hillcarter promoting the 'Vision' he already owed thousands.

So we have a photograph in May 2014 of Cristopher Akers Belcher, 'Leader of The Council', B Morton and Robbie Payne standing outside of the Hillcarter and at that time B Morton owed the council a substantial amount of money, surely questions needs to be asked as to how it was  allowed to escalate to £350k, and more pertinently, how are the council proposing to get any future business rates from Morton.

Exactly ...

The Council had the option to send the Baliffs in after the  first year went unpaid. They do that with everyone else and Hartlepool Council has been warned in the past about it over-zealous pursuit of individuals who do not pay. It seems they go after the little man whilst allowing a 'mate' to simply get everything for free. There is no doubt someone was holding off about  getting the money from Morton and that is how it works in Hartlepool. Would not be surprised if someone got a backhander for not sending the Baliffs in until after he decided to go bust.

As previously mentioned, if Joe Public were late in paying household rates, the council would chase their a**e's off, so you really have to wonder....Domes Money, Business Rates, Charity Donation to a senior officer, what exactly were/are the connections between HBC and Morton.

Lord Elpus

You've got to hand it to Calamity Chris and his mates, they can't half pick em.

What on earth is HBC doing forming partnership with some of the most iffy people in town.  Put simple I can only think of one reason. the same reason why some elected members seem to have lifestyles way above their incomes.

steveL

Morton's business rates write-offs amount to 83% of the total write-offs for the period.

Against this backdrop, you can't help but wonder if he is up to date with the Domes money he is now supposed to be paying or has that too been written-off by putting the company in liquidation before re-launching it under a different name.

Land Phil

To call it unpaid is probably being over optimistic that it ever was going to be paid in the first place.
