Civic leaders in Hartlepool and scores of local schoolchildren will come together on Monday, March 13, to fly the flag for the Commonwealth. Pupils from eleven of the town's primary schools will join the Mayor of Hartlepool, Councillor Rob Cook and Councillor Christopher Akers-Belcher, the leader of Hartlepool Council, on the steps of the Civic Centre at 9.45pm where they will sing a musical selection prior to and after the raising of the flag at 10am. At the ceremony the Mayor will read out the Commonwealth Affirmation while Councillor Akers-Belcher will read out a personal message from the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations................Councillor Christopher Akers-Belcher, the leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "With the new location of the flag poles, it means that important events like this are much more accessible to the public.
No expense will be spared in order to provide Councillors a platform to better posture in public.
I wonder if the message from the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations was adressed to CAB or 'The Leader'?
Maybe They could have used one of the many flagpoles around the corner on an educational facility but I guess it worked out to cost more in councillor expenses for that than the new flagpoles installation???
Careful mk1. You'll be getting the Kippers all excited with all this talk about Poles being outside the Civic.
I happen to welcome the addition of these poles, you see every time there is an election the media always pay attention to what the poles say so they must be very wise entities indeed. I can imagine that these particular poles will be a lot more informed and have better opinions than the shower that are presently running the town (by the way I am aware of the difference in spelling, this post was meant in a light hearted sarcastic kind of way).
like it son ;)
Over the last few days on my habitual travels I have kept an eye on the standards on display outside of the civic centre. Last week the euro flag was flying alongside the beloved corporate flag. This despite the fact that the nation has spoken. Yesterday two local flags were raised however tonight the centre standard displayed the Rainbow Flag , GLBT ,alongside the local flags. Who is in charge of the selection of the standards to be displayed?..no prizes for the correct answer. Before anybody jumps to the wrong conclusion that I am homophobic I would say. Here and now. Othing. Could of be further from thrr
I apologise for the unfinished post above as I am just trying to get to grips with my new tablet. More used to swallowing a mouthful each morning.regards Nes.
Walk that way every day. Never once looked at the flags in the last 40 years. Total non-issue and just a way to get wound-up over nothing. The very fact you comment on it will only embolden those who will now think they are making a point.
Can't say I've ever noticed though I wouldn't have any objections to seeing the Rainbow flag hoisted on a day selected to publicise the LGBT community. Having said that, I'm not aware of any such day recently and I'm not even sure if there is such a thing.
Not in town at moment....don't suppose union jack is flying? Right way up?
I saw it was anti-homophobia day yesterday according to my news feed.
Actually it was a very long acronym, longer than the usual LGBTQ one.
I guess at ties in with the flag.
When is "anti clowncil day"?
I'm surprised there isn't an 'in residence' flag for the council leader, like the Queen at Buck House.
Yesterday was the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

Anyone got George Springer's e-mail? I'll send him the link so he can put it in his calendar for next year.

Well there you go. Who'd have thought there were so many phobias in the world - makes you scared to leave the house - OMG there's another one!!
May as well have another one "Scabaphobia" no explanation needed?
It apppears I have dropped a clanger by raising the matter (no pun intended) .Totally unaware of the occasion. As a result I apologise to all concerned. No offence intended. Sorry.
When is the International day against Hohophobia, Vansphobia and Piephobia? Some people just hate seeing Santa driving a Transit, whilst eating one of Morrels finest pork! ::)
Your hurtling towards flagellation, necrophilia and beastiality.......flogging a dead horse?

I thought that was why they flew the rainbow flag on the centre pole !
