Town stink

Horrible chemical smell noticed as yesterday as you leave 689 at wolviston and head towards town. All day really bad especially in Seaton area- still there today.

It is not the weird potato crisps smell from Frutorama and from my time working on chemical tanker ships it reminds me of tank cleaning gasses and steam. Any ideas? Anyone working down at Seal Sand/River Tees/Billingham with any intel? This seems to be happening more and more.

Are you sure it's not from Fruitarom?  The smell from there can be nauseating, as I'm sure you know.  Does Tioxide generate any smells?  The power station possibly?  I know that at North Tees works, they are dismantling the old Aro 1 plant, so maybe chemical cleaning?

My money would be on the Aromatics Plant.....cant be right though- if we generated that level of odour whilst at north tees we would have been thrown off the berth.

I could smell it this morning at approx 10am and to me,it was similar but weaker than the usual pong! 
I worked on Aro 1 for nearly 18 years!  Well, I say 'worked'...
