Hospital bidders drop out

HEALTH chiefs remain confident that the construction of a new multi-million pound hospital will still go ahead despite two of the original firms in the bidding process dropping out of the running.

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has started the procurement process to select the organisation to develop the 568-bed state-of-the-art hospital to be built at Wynyard Business Park.

Laing O'Rourke and Brookfield Multiplex Europe are the two organisations currently competing to become the preferred bidder for the scheme, due to open its doors in 2017.

The third bidder, Iridium Concesiones de Infraestructuras - a Spanish-based consortium - has informed the trust that they are unable to continue in the process.

Trust officials say they had contacted a consortium called FCC/Interserve, which was a close fourth in the original bidding competition, to invite them to bid.

But their representatives felt that progress on the scheme was too far advanced for it to be able to catch up without causing a serious delay in design and construction, which officials say was not acceptable to the trust.

Trust bosses also said that there are also "high profile financial institutions" in the running to fund the scheme.

And it hopes to announce the preferred "bidder and funder" early in 2014.

Chief executive Alan Foster said: "In schemes of this size and complexity there are always ups and downs. We're disappointed that Iridium has decided not to continue with its bid and that FCC/Interserve could not meet our timescales.

"In Laing O'Rourke and Brookfield Mutliplex Europe Ltd we have two very strong organisations with a proven track record of building excellent hospitals and we very much look forward to receiving their bids.

"There follows a thorough evaluation process after which we will announce our preferred bidder."

When will this white elephant ever open ? Total disgrace to take services off Hartlepool Hospital & transfer them to North Tees Hospital which even the car park can't cope, till it was actually built.

I wonder if North Tees Hospital services had been transferred to Hartlepool Hospital how would Stockton & District feel about it & By the way plenty of land to expand.

What a ridiculous state of affairs! If Hartlepool A & E had been kept open until the new hospital (if it ever materialises) was up and running they could have saved money by not building the white elephant that is the one life centre.

So the CEO of the North Tees & Hartlepool NHS "MISTRUST, now informs us that it will now be 2017 before the Wynyard Hospital is likely to be open.....in that time he will probably earn the thick end of a £1 Million pounds.

Whilst the people of Hartlepool have to make do with the OLC, which by common concensus is little more than a glorified first.aid station......this whole situation is a disgrace......compounded by the behaviour of the ruling Labour Groups total abdication of any responsibility for the health & well being of all Hartlepudlians.

In light of this latest announcement by Alan Foster what can we expect our leading political figures to do about it.....

On past experience i would suggest ....NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

I wonder if the real reason the two bidders who dropped out thought, "what a waste of time, this thing is never gonna happen" (albeit one would say it is Spanish).

Perseo, creo que podría ser disléxico.
Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

Thats easy for you to say!

'Nunca se va a construir este hospital. Vamos a salir de licitación para el contrato'.

Is this a quote from Prof Stanley Unwin?
