(Thank you to the person who sent me this, it made me laugh).

Town leaders have heaped praise on former Hartlepool Councillor Angie Wilcox for her forthcoming work in the regions penal system. After a discussion with a judge in Teesside yesterday, Ms Wilcox has agreed to give up her time and spend Christmas in the company of inmates in one of our regions prisons.

A council spokesperson said “It’s great to see a former councillor setting such a positive example to the people of our town. In giving up her time in this way, she will be working in close proximity with some of societies least fortunate. It’s possible she may even end up cooking their food for them, or cleaning their toilets. To indulge in such selflessness, especially at Christmas is a real credit to her commitment to helping others”.

This is not the first time Ms Wilcox has showcased such a philanthropic attitude. Prior to her recent dialogue with a judge, she had very valiantly helped to support the ever shrinking ‘watch industry’ by buying two Rolex’s. “In showcasing the Rolex’s all over the Owton Manor estate, not only was I supporting the watch industry, but I was encouraging parents to teach their children how to tell the time” commented Ms Wilcox coyly.

Angie’s commitment to helping others didn’t stop there though, as a true Labour Party member, she’s even played her part in fighting to keep businesses in public ownership when faced with the threat of privatisation. Five years ago she spent literally tens of thousands of pounds on stamps in an effort to help the profitability of the Royal Mail. “I could see the Tories circling around the Royal Mail like vultures; they were desperate to sell it off. I need to help I thought, I need to do my bit to try and stop this, that’s just the kind of person I am”.

Ms Wilcox actually spent more money on stamps from her small charities office in Kilmarnock Road, than the total annual postage costs of the first minister for Scotland. “I think that tells you a lot about the so called socialists in the SNP” said Angie. “While Alex Samond’s office spent a paltry few thousand quid on stamps, Manor Residents Association were keeping posties in jobs”.

In recognition of her sterling work for the people of Hartlepool, there has been talk of a ‘Freedom of the Borough’ nomination for Ms Wilcox.

Councillor Rob Cook, the Mayor of Hartlepool and chair of the Civic Honours Committee, said: “Following our appeal last month we’ve already received some nominations which is really encouraging. There are many people who have served the town of Hartlepool with distinction and it is appropriate that those who render eminent service are acknowledged in this way. Obviously it would be inappropriate for me to comment on individual cases such as Angie’s, but if she is nominated, it wouldn’t come as a real surprise to those who know her well.

When questioned about a potential Freedom of the Borough nomination, Angie bashfully played down her chances of such an honour. “That’s not why I do what I do, besides, the ceremony is early next year so the chances are I’ll still be in here swilling out my own pi$$”.
