Sounds a bit like HBC when it comes to making money from parking charges. Yarm Council now has a whopping great legal fee to find - I also wonder how the shops will fare, as many are small and rather quirky...

The introduction of pay and display in Yarm is a very bad move on SBCs part. There was nothing wrong with the disk parking that had been in use for years. Yarm has a thriving high street and this blatant attempt by SBC to use Yarm as a cash cow and it will hurt business.

Ah, but disc parking didn't bring money into the coffers...the main problem with parking in Yarm is often that of finding a space!  Drivers have little alternative to the High Street option. Sainsbury's customers can use their small car park, whilst residents of the original main street (West Street) struggle to find a place to leave their own vehicles - suspect that residents may end up having to buy permits to park outside their own houses, as in Hartlepool.

the parking charges in hartlepool were originally trailed as a way to decrease town centre traffic and - wait for it - to encourage the use of public transport - we don't have any anymore  :)

All about money; bugger all to do with congestion or green matters.
