Business News quote

Public-sector workers in the North East of England earn an average of £3,200 a year more than their private-sector counterparts. Research by Policy Exchange, the think-tank, indicates that workers employed by the State earn more in most regions, with the notable exception of London, where they make £740 less.

Would have thought the working man deserves more help more help than cosseted Council workers.

It also allows The Flying Belcher Brothers to buy extra votes with our money at the next election.

Yes it was the right thing to do, as the council are now set to implement it, when procuring services they can now stipulate that all workers employed under council contractors must be paid the living wage or they cant bid for a contract, its a win win for the workers

That's great in theory Arc, in reality though, our council wasn't even able to ensure our own councillors paid minimum wage, let alone a living wage.  ::)

Slight correction to better reflect reality:

"Lessons need to be learnt when moving forward, Steps have been taken to prevent any more questions of this nature being asked in Council, making sure they don't  get any publicity when they happen again'

ARC86

Well MK1 i would what has happened would not happen again so there would be no need to ask questions

HBC were wrong ...they should have used the money towards becoming the third most expensive council tax charger in the UK.

This isn't quite correct....They are looking for organisations to sign up to an agreement regarding the Living Wage but this agreement is that organisations will pay as close to the Local Authority's Living wage(as they are technically not paying Living wage themselves....Living wage is actually £7.45 for UK and HBC have agreed to pay £7.26) as their funding will allow....Because let's not forget if staff wages increase, in order to maintain the quality of service the Council will only have to pay out more to the organisation as the service unit cost will undoubtedly increase in turn....
