Title: Fire Brigade's 63 Cars
Post by: steveL on October 16, 2012, 10: AM
Somebody mentioned Cleveland Fire Brigade as still deserving his vote so I thought I'd highlight this story brewing in Middlesbrough. The Fire Brigade has revealed through a FOI request that it is currently running a fleet of 63 cars; some on lease, some purchased outright. Not surprisingly, some are wondering what is the need for such a large number of cars.

" . . . the brigade said that of the 63 cars there were 21 on contract hire costing £100,000 a year. Of the remaining 42, they are generally replaced every nine years on a rolling programme. Last year we bought eight at a total cost of £156,000. However not all cars are the same as it depends on what they are expected to be used for. The average replacement cost is £10,000."
