In the case of the Mail, it is far to late to rectify the local news problem........ I rang the office at 8.30am to mention a local news item, no answer, so I just rang off.

That's because it'll be closed, Fred.  It's a different time zone in Sheffield/ India/ Newcastle...or wherever it's published/ printed!
