Just one's man's view, but it's the latest of several opinions/reports emerging which show the direction of travel - notice how once again Hartlepool is not considered to be part of Teesside.

Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

Like you say, it's just one man's view.

Cochrane's views are well known. He sees himself as on of Boro's movers and shakers but he doesn't have the influence he had when his mate arch-liar Mallon was mayor.

The proposed authority will prosper along the route of the Darlington Stockton rail line and when they ever electrify the line through to Middlesbrough and give it a London rail links he line of prosperity will alter accordingly.
No doubt we'll lose our link but we'll be told how great and improved the service will be by travelling through to Middlesbrough to catch the train, not so the taxi ride and bill or God forbid the joys of the No 36 bus.
That's how Cleveland worked, anyone remember that miniature ferret run of a bus station in the Boro before Cleveland stepped in and  built the present one as a hub for Cleveland ?
Suddenly you needed to go through there to catch a via his to certain destinations you could access from here.....except getting there and back from there was never going to be a selling point.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 'not-so-old' bus station in Boro is to be replaced

Nothing would surprise me.
Anyone who's seen the musical Paint your Wagoon will recall a tune called there's a coach coming in, well, the Boros'' coach is on the horizon and well truly coming in. The municipal ego trip can get back on track and if ever you want to see where your money is being spent, jump on the 36 and you'll get there eventually to view it.
Just thought, if they do get rid of their old/ new bus station they could build an interchange, a proper one, unlike the over priced bus stops complete with tumble weeds we got.
