H.V.D.A.

How many charities have they set up in this town?

How much a year do they cost us?

Why do we need them?

Why were they given Rockhaven or whatever it is called free of charge?

I can answer one of your questions..

Why do we need them ?

Because no one  else would employ as many Labour Councillors/cronies/assorted families!

AT IT AGAIN,

How many Councillors are managed by HVDA - 1

that is 1 out of 34, big deal.

LLTA - OH OF COURSE, HE MUST HAVE.

Sorry didn't realise - if you want to see conspiracy, intrigue and corruption on every corner - good luck to you.

As for selling you a second hand car, I would rather burn it.

LLTA - Your own bias holds no bounds.

I would wind you neck in and go to bed if I were you.

Cos your not above a bit of thuggery and corruption yourself from what I hear.

I am involved with three town charities. One predates HVDA, the other two were inaugarated with significant help from them. Their assistance was invaluable.

Most charities are to help the aged or disabled etc.

It allows then to apply for funding in different places.

LLTA isn't a thug he just looks like one  :-*

LlTa is right, this town is awash with 'charities'.  ::)

Didn't HTH publish a list of charities on this site a while ago?
Can anyone find it and republish....maybe we could also find out who runs them, has relatives in them and who gets paid what from them?   :-X

I suspect a lot of the 'same old names' would feature quite often.  :P

People think that because the word 'charity' is used it must be ok.
There are hundreds of examples of where this isn't so but one that springs immediately to mind is the clothing con 'charity'.

That is where you give away your old clothes to be recycled and the money raised goes to the poor of Africa/Romania/Albania.     Except it doesn't.  :(

The collecting company takes 95% for 'admin', 'staff wages' and 'overheads' and the remaining 5% is given to the 'charity'.  >:(

So, just because it says 'charity' it doesn't necessarily have all of the connotations a charity should have.

Straight Talking

Yes you are right, there are good charities and bad charities.

Just like any other section of society.

The majority however, do the right thing by those they try to help.

So lets not chuck the baby out with the bathwater.

Our elderly and disabled of all ages rely on some of these organisations.

I agree.  Maybe there should be a legal redefinition of the word "charity" to stop some of the rogue ones from using that title to mislead people?

HVDA may be worth it's weight in gold but that does not mean it is right that it is given property in an underhand way.

Self serving, not for profit and real charity are a million miles apart.

Signing gift aid to visit the multi-millionaire landed gentry's back garden isn't the same as sending humanitarian aid to a disaster zone.
I don't believe it.

Hartlepool Voluntary Development Agency is a registered charity (1098248) and registered company (04682579)

From HVDA website.

"I agree.  Maybe there should be a legal redefinition of the word "charity" to stop some of the rogue ones from using that title to mislead people? "

Agree. Did you know that Eton School is a registered charity and benefits from the tax breaks that charitable status brings.

The Great Dictator

All of the above charities should have to declare the salaries of anyone who takes one before they can be considered for a grant.
10 years ago the Trincomalee got a £50k donation even though the manager still earned £43,000.

Micksmate

Do all of these groups get funding from HVDA or from the council?  Or are they just the ones that have been helped by HVDA to access funding from various sources?
