Title: Rift House East Residents Association Fun DAY?
Post by: Heknocks68 on August 05, 2016, 09: PM
INTERESTING a family fun day? Scheduled for the 12th, 13th and 14th (3 day event) all clear so far!!  Bottom of flyer (facebook page) 13th and 14th Aug 16, clear so far!! Bottom right of flyer would suggest by inclusion of the HBC logo that this is in association with hbc? Car boot sale "strictly no selling of NEW items" clear so far? So in the case of non new electrical items , given that this event appears to be in conjunction with hbc who assumes responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of the purchaser (in good faith) will the health safety and wellbeing team of hbc be policing the event? The flyer offers at best sketchy detail. There is no mention of charges and potential income from cabin rent for the day or weekend or associated costs for power/fuel erection of cabins dismantling of same, delivery/collection or the funding thereof, it may be free ( not to the ct payers obviously) it would appear the whole town pays for the Rift House East fun day (for some) on a plus note its a "stricly no alcohol" gig, guess Barclay wont be staggering around then. Highlight of Sunday "Dog show" need more be said.

I don`t have a problem with Family Fun Days, as long as they don`t cost me anything.......

All sorts of stuff goes on in the Manor free gratis & most of us who live in the ward don`t know anything about it.... I would settle for the council to do a bit of weed killing & dog s**t enforcing.

I don't consider stepping in dog s**t to be a laughing matter...... neither do i find ratepayers money funding the lifestyle of LabMob councillors much of a chuckle..... if that appeals to your sense of humour, no wonder you live in a Bunker.

The bit that caught my eye is the Free Community BBQ on Friday 12th August -
Free Sausages and Burgers. I truly hope that this is not being funded from the money set aside to feed hungry children during the summer holidays.

I adore coming on this forum when I feeling a bit down. It truly does make me realise I have a long way further down to go before I can even compete with your level of 'miserable'

I feel so much better now.   Thanks !!!!

If you went on a forum for whale preservation I have no doubt you'd advocate cleansing the seas of the big blubbery lumps, you're a contrary Mary.

I received the leaflet today and my first thought was... Where did the money come from for this two page A4 full colour leaflet?  Don't get me started on the 3 day funday or the 'Free Sausages and Burgers!'  I sincerely hope they aren't stupid enough to use the holiday hunger money.

It is a sad state of affairs when we are all so cynical about a community event but can anyone blame us when it comes to the people involved. I agree with the concept of this kind of event and I genuinely hope the families who go have a good time but there are question marks, as always, about the small matter of money.

Alongside the leaflet I received an update from Kaylee, Kevin and Christopher. I have very little interest in what they have to say but I noticed that Foggy Furze residents will benefit from the FREE bulky waste removal service in October/November, paid for by the ward member budgets of course.

I don't know who the hell writes or checks these kind of things but they want the sack.  Aside from the terrible grammar it contained gems such as 'Wordsword Avenue' and my personal favourite 'Tanfield Toad'  ;D

Since Marj took over looking after the local Labour Party's accounts they have, somewhat predictably, gone tits up. They are pretty much broke and Iain Wright threatening to move his office out of South Road with the subsequent loss of rent would help things much.

The last Labour promotional leaflet that I saw was sponsored by Thirteen Group - a questionable linkage in itself - and I wouldn't be surprised if Thirteen (or whatever they are called this week) are making a  contribution to this fun day; previous sponsors have included Niramax.

Given SAB's attitude to using council facilities to produce election material and Devlin's pathetic response to what any other authority would have regarded as a very serious flouting of election rules, I would expect the full council machinery to be employed to prop up this event.

Ah, the good old ward budget. The question has to be asked why? Why exactly does a councillor need to turn up like the tooth fairy and fund with other people's money but in their name, projects and events that oddly generate maximum publicity for the 'provider'.
They appear to play the role of generous benefactor or philanthropist, but I always assumed they did their philanthropic work with their own money.
Councillors budgets to me look like a vanity we don't need, if extra rubbishy needs taking away leave it to those in charge to give the service to everyone, if burgers need buying, buy them yourselves, Be judged on what you actually do and not an ability to act like Santa.

In theory & if used properly ward budgets are a good idea, but used as they are by Labour councillors, they are an immoral burden on people who pay council tax.

If, as Riddler mentions they were using their own cash to fund their various 'Free Activities' they could legitimately claim the plaudits for doing so, but as it is, they are in effect acting 'The Big I Am' with other peoples money.

It will be interesting to see if the second largest party in Hartlepool politics lead the way in pushing for explanations into the 'free food for hungry kids scheme.... or should that be scam.'

I noticed on the Mail website this morning that Bishop Cuthbert Residents Association are also having a fun day on 27th August.

http://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/news/fun-is-on-the-way-as-residents-association-organises-first-community-event-1-8064711 (http://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/news/fun-is-on-the-way-as-residents-association-organises-first-community-event-1-8064711)

The ward member budgets are also being used for this but there are a few notable differences between this one and the 'Rifty' one:

* Its on for 3 hours and not 3 days
* It is clear where the money has come from for it (ward member budgets as well as Bellway and Persimmon)
* It is also clear where the money raised from the event is going (community garden scheme at Meadowsweet Road)
* There is no mention of FREE food anywhere

One thing did amuse me though.  The article includes a picture of ward Councillors and a few people from the residents association.  I wonder if you can guess which Councillor is missing from the picture?  ::)

At 11.25 this morning there were 5 council vehicles in the Rec carpark & at least half a dozen operatives erecting sheds.... at least i think they were council employees, they certainly got out of council vans.

So what???

There's only you and you're half dozen cronie mates who give a stuff.   Just stay in and watch the telly whilst hundreds have an enjoyable day.

Jeez you're a miserable lot.

If it's cost me a quid or two as a tax payer I'm quite happy it's being enjoyed

More money than sense springs to mind, i suppose the hundreds of thousands of pounds that went awol under a Labour councillor at a well known Manor Charidee was also OK.

Or the £680,000 that went up the Suwannee on WC N/E on the say so of 1 Labour councillor.

Your quid or two is a drop in the ocean compared to whats being wasted..... but by all means keep shelling out, but count me out, i can't afford to give my money to people better off than me.

Thank God the football season has started again. I don't think those who aspire to have the town run better than it is will find the answer from those who consider the annual avoidance of relegation as a triumph.

Not good for me. I have to share a train with the drunken chanting morons are the stagger home pis*ed. When you watch their pathetic efforts try and pick up women on the journey home you understand why they have so much time on their hands. Apparently they think 'show us yer tits' is a blinding chat-up line!

I agree with Bresslaw, the actions of a minority can't be attributed to all who attend football matches.
As a matter of interest, if they're on a train they won't he Hartlepool supporters, but may live in Hartlepool. Big difference.

"Supported by Hartlepool Borough Council, the fun got underway with a free barbeque."

I don't remember reading this phrase in the Mail coverage of other community 'fun days' such as the Greatham Feast, the Hart Village Fayre and the Hartfields event; perhaps, contributions from councillor ward budgets but that was the extent of it. What does "Supported by Hartlepool Borough Council"actually mean? I suspect it means that residents in other areas have effectively been made to subsidise this one event when the same level of support has not been made available to their own local residents associations or groups. While most community events are limited to a few hours of fun, this one managed to stretch itself over a full 3 days.

"All proceeds going to community causes in the town". Yes, I think we all know whose 'community groups' that means and I would bet real money that the free barbecue was funded through the holiday hunger money.

I, for one, would be interested to know the extent of the financial support and of the support in kind provided by HBC to the residents association which happens to be chaired by the Great Leader himself. It seems to me that the Town Centre has been re-located to the Owton Manor/Rift House area

It might just be me, but I can't help but think this is another reason for the removal of 'Individual Ward Budgets' I can't see any reason why the hard pressed council tax payer should be paying for a Labour group freebie.

What this amounts to, is some councillors from other wards spending some of their Ward Budgets in The Dear Leader & Lying Ste's wards, is that how they are supposed to work ?

"I can confirm that the Rift Fun weekend is funded from Ward Member budgets,  collectively 11 Councillors contributed £4,500 towards the event which funded the majority of activities and also the Council workforce in installing the wooden huts.  As you will appreciate some activities are self funded as they subject to charges e.g. fun fair rides and others are provided voluntary"

"The Council via the community development team support many  community events across the town, including this one.  The Council's  security contract is also utilised to ensure our equipment is safe and secure during the running of such  events"

"All Ward Member budget allocations have to be approved by the Director for Regeneration and Neighbourhoods in collaboration with the Chief Finance Officer and the Council Monitoring Officer.  Ward Member budget spend is reported to the Neighbourhood Forums on a regular basis through the year and to the Neighbourhood Services Policy Committee annually"

So we're talking about 3 wards: Manor, Rift House and Fens and Rossmere with, I assume the UKIP bloke, who I keep forgetting the name of, being the one to opt out.

I'd love to see the mechanism by which council workers are paid from ward budgets. Remember we're talking about the likes of Cranney, James and the two Akers-Belchers....precisely the people that Ged Hall was talking about. And who paid for the free burgers? I'd bet real money it was the kids on free school meals that paid for those.

To my mind it is a blatant misuse of public money, re.the free meals for kids, I did ask that question in my request to the CEO, she chose not to answer it.

Only in Hartlepool & Only Under a Dysfunctional Local Council.
