Respect campaign comes to Seaton Carew

HARTLEPOOL'S Seaton Ward will be the focus tomorrow (Tuesday 19th August) of an ongoing campaign to ensure that local neighbourhoods prosper and residents take pride in the area where they live.

The 'Respect Your Neighbourhood' initiative is led by Hartlepool Council but involves other key organisations including the Police, Fire Brigade and housing providers under the banner of the Safer Hartlepool Partnership.

It involves a full day of action in a particular area of town one day a month aimed at improving local neighbourhoods. All eleven borough wards are being made the focus of the campaign on a rotation basis.

The campaign was launched in February in the Burbank and Longhill Industrial Estate areas when several vehicles were stopped as part of a 'stop and search' operation and action was taken against people for littering and dog fouling offences.

The location selected for tomorrow's day of action in the Seaton Ward is Seaton Front, including the beach, promenade and Seaton Park.

The Respect Your Neighbourhood initiatives include fining people for littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping, clamping down on irresponsible landlords, graffiti removal, tackling anti-social behaviour and removing untaxed vehicles.

Prior to the day of action, the key organisations involved work with the ward councillors and members of the public to help identify issues which need tackling.

Councillor Peter Jackson, Chair of the Council's Neighbourhood Services Committee, said: "Most people in Hartlepool are proud of their local area and respect it - our target is the small minority who do not and who spoil it for others.

"This campaign is playing an important part in helping to maintain safe, attractive neighbourhoods where people are happy and proud to live."

Media note: There will be a photocall on Seaton promenade (near the Rocket House car park) on Tuesday 19th August at 2pm when representatives of some of the organisations taking part in the Respect Your Neighbourhood initiative will be available for photographs and interviews.

for fawkes sake

"The Respect Your Neighbourhood initiatives include fining people for littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping, clamping down on irresponsible landlords, graffiti removal, tackling anti-social behaviour and removing untaxed vehicles.

Interesting take on things. Are these not the things that we would normally expect these people to be doing every day of the month; not just ONE.

I'd call it a significant cut in service, myself.
"Remember, remember the fifth of November.
Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot."
