North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has received a submission from Brookfield Multiplex to design, build and operate the new hospital, which is due to open in 2017.

The trust will work closely with Brookfield Multiplex in the coming months to refine the design and ensure its final bid represents value for money

Did a Google on Brookfield and it was very interesting. They just liquidated the New Zealand branch a week after setting up a near identical firm with the same Directors.

Cynics say it was due possible claims against the company.

The firm has also taken legal action in Australia on a narrow technical point ("Brookfield Multiplex's approach is to focus on technical points of law rather than rectifying the defects or improving building quality practice") to avoid compensation claims for faulty builds.

And in the UK we have Wembley.....

It's still the weekend so let's have a game of 'Spot the Difference.'

Have a read of the Mail story on mk1's link and then 'compare and contrast' with this story from the Evening Gazette:

http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/2013/04/20/concern-as-construction-groups-pull-out-of-bidding-for-299m-wynyard-hospital-84229-33206128/

Did you spot the difference? Just how far up the ar** of the Hospital Trust is the Hartlepool Mail?

steveL

good write up marky and you're right, the Mail appear to have missed out a rather important part of the story.
Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.

A Stockton MP has said that it is a "cause for concern" that two construction groups have pulled out of the bidding to build a new £299m hospital at Wynyard.

I looked through the article several times........ I didn`t see a Quote from our vertically challenged "Member"........... Hardly surprising really, conspicuous by his absence when it comes to the Hospital Closure.

SRMoore

Interesting that it fell on the only Conservative MP, James Wharton, to point that fact out Fred. The Labour lot are either too busy hiding or shouting their support because it means spending other peoples money.

Inspector Knacker

I wonder if it's possible to check how many people who would have previously used A&E at Hartlepool now travel thtough to North Tees or use the One life minor injuries bit
. Annual figures for the past ten years would make an interesting comparison. Let's be honest, if you didn't have access to a car, would you attempt the journey  unless desperate ...as for the one life, what's the point ....?
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.

I think the Tory makes an important point in that, even as our own services dissappear, there is nothing definite about a new hospital at Wynyard and with only one bidder now in the race because all others "couldn't get the figures to stack up", I don't see any competition going on here. Knowing that the Trust doesn't have an alternative is hardly going to make the remaining bidder particularly cost conscious - it's going to be more like a 'take it or leave it' situation.

I will attempt to put the "Single Bid" process for the World Class Hospital into Laymans Terms.

They Will Rip The Ar*e

Out Of North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Trust

looks like another example of The Mail responding to this site after its shameful early coverage of the trust's press release when it forgot to mention that another bidder had dropped out.

I don't know what it is with The Mail. It seems prepared to spin the wheel for everyone except the people it wants to buy its paper.

If further proof that PFI is a massive Millstone around the necks of the taxpayers, this article reinforces the point, with 1 project costing a staggering 12 Times the actual estmated cost.

The Mis-Trust & its board really should explain to the public exactly how much the "End Cost" of the proposed 1 Bidder Hospital will be.

The Great Dictator

I thought the Tories had stopped all this PFI shi* ?

SRMoore

The government won't underwrite new PFI deals atm. Foster knows this and is obviously pinning his hopes on a that being changed when the treasury finalise a report on how any future PFI deals will be controlled so as not to result in those like the one Fred pointed out.

testing times

I don't think anyone is playing straight on this whole subject and I wouldn't bet on anything until the new hospital's canteen is actually open and serving bacon sandwiches..
