It seems to be the case that all you have to do to get an OBE or something similar is to stay in one of these publicly funded Quango posts for long enough and some sort of dong is inevitable. No one can claim this to be a popular choice supported by the local people which only serves to emphasise that the actual public are regarded as little more than a nuisance these days.
