Last chance to give views on regeneration plans
Published Tuesday, 10th January 2017

TIME is running out for people to comment on plans to repair and restore shop fronts and buildings in Hartlepool's historic Church Street.
They are being urged to give their views on Hartlepool Borough Council's regeneration proposals for the key conservation area by taking part in an online survey at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/hlf before public consultation ends on Friday.
The Council's main priorities are facade and roof repairs, restoration of dilapidated shop fronts and replacing shop fronts that are currently missing - together with more substantial repairs to a number of prominent buildings.
This follows a successful bid for £1.2m funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The work, part of a Heritage Lottery Fund Townscape Heritage scheme, has been identified following building surveys.
The survey is also a chance for people to give their views on the Church Street Conservation Area Management Plan which will be used by the Council to guide future applications for planning permission and listed building consents. It makes a number of key recommendations;

• Greater use of powers such as issuing repair notices to owners in order to prevent further deterioration, decay, and inappropriate repair work to historic buildings.
• Providing support for property owners.
• Promoting the repair and reinstatement of original historic shop fronts.
• Allowing a wider range of uses than might normally be the case to help bring these vacant buildings back into beneficial use.
• Restricting advertisements and display signage in order to ensure that they respect the streets historic character.

Councillor Kevin Cranney, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council's Regeneration Services Committee, said: "Church Street is a key conservation area which requires investment because of the age of many of the buildings.
"With the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund we are now able to look at much needed repairs and restoration and we have put out our plans out for public consultation as we want to make sure we are heading in the right direction.
"I would urge as many people as possible to make their views known before public consultation ends on Friday."

Another totally pointless Survey Monkey questionaire...... they only ask questions that they have there answers for.

It is also apparent that Public Money ( lottery funding ) will be used to renovate the Shades......... what a kick in the plums that is to HBC who had the urine extracted out of them over the Longscar.

Will that include the council owned Market Hotel?.The listed building they have left to collapse.

Quote Councilor/ unelected Mayor Cook. "it,s a wreck like all the old buildings on Church Street, they should all be pulled down". In his post as chair of planning.

having worked in the place a while back I would agree it is literally falling to pieces and has been bodged and better bodged over the years
I don't think it's worth spending money on
quite a few of the buildings in church street are the same
strikes me this is a cosmetic exercise
A councillor is an elected representative of their ward, not their political party!
Councils need communities but communities don't need councils
Party politics have no place in local goverment

The Flintstones of politics would artex the Sistine  chapel ceiling if it was in Hartlepool. Our views are to be filed under the heading 'shredder'.
What can be asserted without proof,
can be dismissed without proof.
