As long as there is housing shortage prices will continue to rise, the government said we need to build 300000 a year which won?t happen. First and foremost the major players in the building industry don?t want to flood the market with new houses which could see a drop in the prices. Secondly we don?t have enough of the labour enquired to build them.

   Yes its a shame the 1997-2010 Labour government didn't bother building any new council houses and also a shame they didn't block the sale of council houses.

Did Hartlepool not have a Labour controlled council and a Labour MP when it was decided to pass on all of its council housing stock to a housing association. Whatever the reasons were for this decision it still happened on Labours watch.

The reason they sold them of was because the organisation who bought them qualified for government grants for improvements to them, quite by coincidence some of the staff went with them on greatly enhanced salaries I believe.

Thatcher sold the council houses of to individuals, the Council sold what was left to Housing Hartlepool a company who rent them out.
